Introduction

  • Welcome (1 min)
    • Welcome to the module on Network Management and Security!
Network Management - 94 minutes

  • Network Management (33 min)
    • We’ll take a hard look at the processes, tools and protocols used in Network Management.
  • Syslogging (18 min)
    • We have to log everything that happens on our corporate network devices – this is how we do it.
  • Configuration Backups (15 min)
    • We always need to have backups!
  • Quality of Service (11 min)
    • We will look at the traffic cop in modern networking, QoS.
  • Virtualization (17 min)
    • Virtualization has been around for many years now, how much do you know about it?
IP Services - 70 minutes

  • Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (25 min)
    • There must be some easy way to assign IP addresses to hosts on the network – ah yes, DHCP.
  • Network Address Translation (11 min)
    • NAT is one of the biggest topics in networking – let’s learn all about how to translate addresses!
  • Lab: Implementing NAT (12 min)
    • Now, let’s do some labs 🙂
  • Network Timing Protocol (22 min)
    • What can I do to ensure that the timestamps on all of my syslog messages are synchronized? Configure NTP so all devices share a common time source.
Network Security - 190 minutes

  • Managing Risk and Information Security (12 min)
    • Information security is paramount in contemporary networking, nobody wants to be the company that was in the news for being hacked.
  • Introduction to ACLs (32 min)
    • Access Lists have many uses and protect our networks and connections – let’s dive into this important topic!
  • Implementing ACLs (32 min)
    • How about a lab on ACLs?
  • Securing Cisco Network Devices (31 min)
    • In this lesson we will learn how to implement basic security and management plane protection in Cisco IOS.
  • Switch Security Features (31 min)
    • Port security and some other really cool switch security features – let’s dive in!
  • Firewalls and VPNs (22 min)
    • Let’s make sure we understand the different types of firewalls and VPNs…
  • Network Hardening Techniques (21 min)
    • We will take a look at the tools and processes available to network engineers to help ensure the network stays safe.
  • Multifactor Authentication (8 min)
    • Passwords can be safe, but a one-time-use dynamically created key is far superior.
